When I was nearly finished with this imaginary Old West town, I had named the mercantile store after my children’s name sake. It then happened that I’d become engaged to my late husband and hadn’t had time to finish the painting- so just before the wedding I signed it with the name I was about to assume. I presented the painting to him as a wedding present.
