The surprise you feel when you step down onto the viewing platform to see these falls is like none other. The scene is striking and beautiful with the sheer wall of volcanic basalt surrounding the upper 40ft and lower 80ft cascades of thundering water. Depicting the vertical columns of basalt was a most difficult challenge but a thrilling and gratifying one.
